STEAM Show

Formerly known as Arts Night, we have expanded our annual exhibition to be more inclusive of the entire STEAM curriculum at Saint Joseph Prep. The event primarily features the studio artwork of students across several grade levels, as well as samples of graphic design work and CAD illustrations from each of those classes. Additionally, mechanical projects from the STEAM class, and a Robotics demonstration enhance and offer an interactive aspect to the evening. Members of the Phoenix Players, SJP’s theatrical troupe, as well as the A Cappella group add live performance to the mix. With refreshments offered and a building brimming with excitement and activity, this evening event promises to be a highlight of the year.

As the world continues to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 STEAM SHOW was a virtual event. “The Viral Age” reflected on the experience of our young artists while living through this historic challenge. The primary physical artifact of the show involves an infinity mirror, allowing the viewer to see multiple reflections and to consider multiple futures. Accompanying this work is an array of sculptures signifying either “Fear” or “Hope”. Visitors may leave their fears behind, and take hope with them. The full 2021 STEAM SHOW is now available for viewing online.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 STEAM SHOW was also a virtual event, with an online gallery showcasing work from all courses within the STEAM curriculum. The gallery is posted here: 2020 STEAM SHOW

The 2019 STEAM SHOW, which launched on Thursday, May 16, 2019 offered a unique collaboration as its centerpiece in Phoenix Hall. The studio art classes, as well as students from Ms. Gipson’s mechatronic and robotics students combined efforts to bring a dramatic vision focusing on the theme of reflection. The theme offered both a literal meaning, with works constructed from reflective material, as well as a metaphorical meaning, as the full gallery presented a retrospective look at all of the work created by students across the entire fine arts and STEAM spectrum.

Rounding out the bulk of the space was yet another impressive collection of student artwork from across all levels of the fine arts courses, as well as a sampling of the outstanding works from Graphic Design, CAD, and the Sciences. As with previous shows, there was incredible diversity of work to see across various mediums, styles and cutting edge technology. The students outdid themselves yet again with striking visuals and thoughtful content.

The previous year’s STEAM SHOW took place on Thursday, May 17, 2018, and artwork, as well as a video of the stage presentation (Identity Garden) can be seen below:
