Many students commute to Saint Joseph Prep via a carpool. Saint Joseph Prep is happy to help facilitate carpool formation by providing a directory for interested families.
The City of Boston provides MBTA passes (M7’s) to Boston residents at no charge. These communities include Allston, Boston Proper, Brighton, Charlestown, Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury, South Boston, and West Roxbury.
MBTA passes (M7’s) are available at a significantly discounted price for students from September through June. Purchase of this pass entitles students to unlimited travel, seven days a week, for an annual fee of $300 (2020-21 price—subject to change by the MBTA). Passage on the Commuter Rail in Zones 1 and 2 may also be accessed via these passes. Several MBTA buses provide direct and transfer service to the front door daily. The Boston Landing commuter rail stop on the Framingham/Worcester Line to and from South Station is a 10-minute walk to SJP.
Many students register for free MBTA Stored Value “Charlie” cards (S-Cards). These cards provide discounted access for students to MBTA transportation at half price and are valid at any time. Half price passage on the Commuter Rail outside Zones 1 and 2, including Interzone travel, may also be accessed via these passes. They can be used as a Pay-as-you-go or you can upload a monthly pass ($30) at any MBTA Fare Vending Machine.
Students may keep their M7 or S-card for use during summer months. The pass can be upgraded at any Fare Vending Machine for $30 each month.
