Spring Break Activities

April vacation week is often celebrated with trips to beaches, hiking excursions, or lazy afternoons with friends in the sunshine. This year, everything is different, but we are excited to offer a variety of stay-at-home activities to keep you busy over break. Tune in to a baking class with Mrs. Theresa Burns—and then earn those baked goods with a workout with Coach Sam Burns. Or check out yoga with Ben Carroll or live music with mr. shiner. 6:30-7:00PM : Live Music with damian israel shiner : Join mr. shiner as he plays original and cover songs LIVE on Facebook for a half hour set. It could be the perfect background music while you make dinner or sit back and relax with a drink and snack, or you may get active and dance & sing along! People may make requests in the comments section, and he just may honor them by playing that song. There is no charge to attend, and each week, he encourages listeners to donate to worthy cause—this time, it’s the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. 10:00-11:00AM : Springtime Yoga with Ben : This class is a come as you are, all-levels yoga class. To exit the winter and become connected to the spring, this class will guide you through a simple practice to synchronize your energies with the sun and empty and cleanse the wintertime inertia. You’ll feel balanced, refreshed and ready for the activity of the spring and summer. No experience is required. 5:00-6:00PM : Theatre from Home: Play-Watching & Post-Show Talkback with Trinacria Theatre Company : Participants are invited to watch the National Theatre's production of Treasure Island (runtime: 1 hour and 50 minutes, available now on YouTube) on their own BEFORE our meet up on Tuesday 4/21. Then join us on Zoom at 5pm for a talkback with Mariagrazia La Fauci, Artistic Director of Trinacria Theatre Company (and MSJA alumna ’08), together with Ms. Gipson. During the talkback we'll discuss the show, play games, and learn behind-the-scenes trivia! Zoom link

2:00-3:00PM : To Hang A Pencil, The Exchange : Creative Writing Workshop with Burke : Through self-examination and an analysis of the communities we belong to, we will create an original piece of creative nonfiction writing that illustrates a personal experience with race or gender and illuminates the impact this event had on you as an individual and/or your community at large.
