Headmaster’s Circle: Student earns all grades A- or above

Honors with Distinction: Student earns grades of B or above, with no more than two Bs and no B-s

Phoenix Scholar: Student earns all grades of B- or above

Saint Joseph the Worker: Student receives 4s or 5s for effort in each class

Students will register for their courses for the following academic year during March. Counselors and other administrative staff meet with students during advisory periods to complete class registration. Our goal is for all students to be properly challenged in their courses and course selection is based on an array of factors including teacher recommendations, demonstrated academic aptitude, and standing within the school.

We encourage students to discuss course placement with their advisor and subject teachers to determine the best fit course progression. Additional meetings with their counselor can be arranged to discuss the students’ options in more detail. 

Naviance is a useful guidance tool for students of all grade levels. Students are given accounts during their freshman year to explore their future vocational goals. Sophomores are encouraged to utilize the assessments to identify personal strengths, continue exploring career interests, and research enrichment programs. Juniors and Seniors will use the site a great deal for college search engines, scholarship databases, requesting letters of recommendation, and updating college application lists. 

Each standardized test is offered by a different company: CollegeBoard facilitates the SAT, while the ACT test is run by a company of the same name.

To sign up for an exam, you need to sign up for or access your existing account and registration links are on the homepages. You will need a credit or debit card to pay for registration.

Throughout the fall semester, representatives from colleges across the country come to SJP to present on their institutions and learn about our students. It is a great opportunity to learn more about prospective schools and make contact with the college rep who will likely read our SJP applications.

Students should log into Naviance, select “Colleges Home” in the upper right hand corner of the page, and scroll down to College Visits to see upcoming visits. Students can register for a visit by clicking the school and selecting “Register.” 

Most visits occur during the Advisory period. 

Seniors and Juniors can be excused from Advisory to attend meetings. Seniors may be excused from an additional three classes to attend college visits. Juniors may be excused from two classes to attend college visits. If a student is missing a class to attend a college visit, they must communicate with their teacher prior to the meeting.

The Free Application for Federal Student Student Aid (FAFSA) is a federal form all students fill out when applying to college in order to qualify for financial assistance to attend college. The form is entirely free to fill out and can be completed easily and securely online.

The FAFSA is released each year on October 1 and the deadline is not until June 30 of the following year; however, you should complete the form early so that you hear back about financial assistance as early as possible.

To fill out the FAFSA, you will need your parent/guardian(s) financial information on hand. You can complete the form with them in 15 to 30 minutes.

Yes. We automatically send Semester 1 transcripts and Final Transcripts to the schools to which you’ve applied.

The C&SC Team is dedicated to supporting students facing life stressors in school, familial, and social contexts. While the range of issues that students face varies, the C&SC Team is prepared to ensure positive well-being and safety for all students.

Concerned students and/or parents should reach out to the student’s school counselor as a starting point for any presenting socioemotional issue. Counselors will work with the students, as well as their teachers, school administrators, and parent/guardian(s) to evaluate the concern and refer the student to proper resources as needed.

Students come to counselors to discuss a variety of experiences and situations they encounter. Academic support, planning for college, exploring job and career opportunities, preparing for related tasks (e.g., applying for scholarships), as well as processing challenges in their lives. All students are encouraged to speak with their counselor when faced with difficulties.
