Junior College Checklist

Since the vast majority of students apply to and enroll in a college or university after graduation, standardized testing is an essential component of the SJP experience. All SJP students are offered the PSAT during 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. All 11th grade students have access to a free SAT prep course.

Beginning in 10th grade, we work with students to identify their strengths and encourage the exploration of career pathways and options. Utilizing tools in Naviance students have the chance to learn more about their own strengths and preferences and how that translates into potential college majors and future career options. Continuing in 11th and 12th grade, the Career tools in Naviance help guide students in their college search.

We work individually with each student to build a balanced list of schools to apply to, including likely, target, and reach schools. We offer feedback and constructive ideas to round out students lists and help to devise the best strategy for each student in terms of when to utilize the advantages of programs like Early Action and Early Decision and when it might be more advantageous to apply during the Regular Decision Round. With help from data provided in Naviance, we begin working with students in 11th grade to help them identify schools that are good fits for them and fall in each of the likely, target, and reach categories.
