Throwforward Thursday: Sean, Armani & Vova

This week, in another installment of Throwforward Thursday, we highlight Sean Bennett, Armani Monteiro, and Vova Quigley from the Class of 2017!

Sean Bennett ’17, from Brighton, will be attending the University of Massachusetts-Amherst this fall. He was accepted into the Isenberg School of Management where he will major in Sports Management. This particular program at UMass is consistently recognized as one of the top schools in the country for students with ambitions of working in the ultra-competitive sports industry. Sean, who has played or managed Football, Soccer, and Tennis while at Saint Joseph Prep, aspires to work for a professional sports organization in the future, so it’s a perfect fit! Transitioning from SJP to a school of more than 22,000 undergraduate students will be a major change, but Sean is excited. That said, “I’m going to miss the community at SJP. Knowing everyone in the school, and having all these connections with everyone in the halls has been an amazing experience.” Outside of the sports program, Sean is looking forward to remaining active in Campus Ministry, participating in intramural sports, and taking an Irish History class. Congrats, Sean!

Armani Monteiro ’17 will be moving from Dorchester to Queens, where she will enroll at St. John’s University! Admitted into the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, Armani plans to study Accounting. “Math is just something that’s always been a strength and a subject I’ve enjoyed. As I advanced through the curriculum here at SJP, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in a related field.” She also noted that observing her uncle, an accountant at State Street, influenced her decision. Currently, Armani is preparing for the AP Calculus exam and she is registered to take AP Statistics at Northeastern over the summer as well! Armani admitted that although St. John’s wasn't her first choice, Sister Marilyn McGoldrick encouraged her to visit the school with “an open mind and an open heart.” Soon thereafter, she attended an overnight program and didn’t want to leave! She loved the atmosphere, the people, and the city. Of particular note, she recalled a banner that said “Welcome Home” as opposed to “Welcome New Students” or something similar. It reminded her of SJP, where she enrolled as a sophomore transfer, and has had an amazing experience, finding a home. Good luck, Armani!

Vova Quigley ’17 has decided to pursue a postgraduate year at Bridgton Academy in Maine. Like most students, he planned on transitioning right into college, but the more he and his parents considered the benefits of a PG year, the more sense it made. As an extremely talented athlete, Vova was voted a CCL All-Star multiple times in soccer, swimming, and track and field while at SJP. Most passionate about soccer, Vova will play for Bridgton where the team often competes against Division 3 colleges and universities. Vova came to Saint Joseph Prep from The Fesseden School and he notes the similarities between Bridgton and his former all-boys boarding school. Having long held an interest in architecture, he plans to pursue a career in the field, leveraging his impressive skills as an artist... and his love of Legos! As a Beacon Hill resident, Vova enjoys the opportunity to explore the neighborhood and take in all the beautiful architecture Boston has to offer. When asked his thoughts about Saint Joseph Prep, Vova remarked, “I’m going to miss that everyone here is like a family. I’ve made some amazing friends at SJP.”

For Vova, and everyone in the Class of 2017, always know that you have a home at Saint Joseph Prep and you are part of the Phoenix Family for life! We are so proud of your accomplishments and look forward to hearing all about your future successes. After a short hiatus for April vacation, check back in for another Throwforward Thursday the following week!
