Throwforward Thursday: Alexis, Marshall and Sharon

Continuing with our new #ThrowforwardThursday feature, we are thrilled to profile three more members of the Class of 2017!

Sharon King ’17 will be attending College of the Holy Cross this fall. The Watertown resident will be pursuing a double major in Mathematics and Secondary Education. As SEVEN-TIME athletic captain across three sports at SJP (volleyball, basketball, and softball) and a current student in both AP Calculus and AP Statistics, Sharon’s dream is to become a high school math teacher and athletics coach. Like most soon-to-be graduates, she is most looking forward to the increased independence at college, but Sharon also plans to play volleyball, either as a walk-on or with the club team, and to stay active in Campus Ministry and with service opportunities. When asked what she’ll miss most about Saint Joseph Prep, she quickly replied, “The people! I've been able to develop some really great relationships with my friends and teachers in my four years at SJP.” The good news is she won’t be alone at Holy Cross next year, but you'll have to wait to see who's joining her.

Marshall Liu ’17 will be moving from his home in Newton down to New Jersey, where he’ll be enrolling at Rutgers University as a Computer Engineering major. Although he’s not sure where it will take him, he knows he wants to work with state-of-the-art technology...potentially at Ford Motor Company. (If you’ve seen Marshall’s Mustang, you understand his interest!). Marshall is excited to make new friends at Rutgers, to cheer on their Division 1 football and basketball teams, to play intramural sports with the other students in his dorm, and to explore nearby New York City. Marshall’s experience is unique in that for the past two years, he's already been living away from his family and navigating independence as an international student from China, so college won't be as much of a transition. That said, “Boston feels like a second home. My classmates were all so nice; I’m really going to miss my friends and host family.” Needless to say, we’re going to miss you too, Marshall!

Alexis Meissner ’17, from Needham, was accepted early to Providence College. As a Friar, she plans to study business and is interested in pursuing careers in marketing and/or fashion. What attracted her to PC was its similarity to Saint Joseph Prep, specifically citing how nice the students were when she visited, holding doors open and asking her and her father if they needed anything. As a soccer player at SJP, she’s excited to play on an intramural team and explore the city of Providence and the Capitol Hill neighborhood. She is perhaps most looking forward to, however, “not having to wake up at 5am every day!” When asked what she’ll miss most about SJP, she referenced the amazing friends she’s made here, but also the routines to which she’s become accustomed, like where her classes are or with whom she’s going to eat lunch. In closing, we asked Alexis if she had any final thoughts, and she said confidently, “SJP has prepared me for whatever happens next!”

We certainly hope so, Alexis, and we couldn’t be more proud of you, Sharon, and Marshall as you prepare for graduation and life beyond Saint Joseph Prep! Check back next week for another round of #ThrowforwardThursday updates!
