Faculty Friday Spotlight: Ms. Liz Creamer

Happy #FacultyFriday! This week, we highlight Ms. Liz Creamer, a Spanish teacher here at Saint Joseph Prep. Now in her second year, she teaches multiple sections of Spanish 1 and an additional section of Spanish 4. In the fall, she coaches volleyball and this spring, she will start assisting with the track and field team!

A Long Island native, Ms. Creamer moved to Massachusetts to attend the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, where she majored in Secondary Education and Hispanic Studies. BC was Ms. Creamer’s first experience with Catholic education, and she became active in the school’s Campus Ministry program and subsequently interested in working at a Catholic school. Through the five year Master’s in Education program, she was able to work with the Roche Center for Catholic Education as a researcher. Through her work, she became familiar with Saint Joseph Prep and was thrilled at the opportunity to teach at SJP. One thing that made school stand out was its size. The smaller student and staff population, she says, has allowed her to “form strong relationships with both teachers and students, which [would be] rare at other schools.” She enjoys that people are not “running out” after school and want to talk to each other outside of the classroom.

Growing up, Ms. Creamer’s language teachers helped her decide to pursue teaching. Not only did she take Spanish all through high school, but she was also able to take two years of Italian and one year of French! Since she was so invested in learning languages, she spent the summer before her senior year of high school at Middlebury College in their Summer Language Academy. In order to immerse themselves, participants took a “language pledge,” promising to speak only Spanish for the whole summer! Her enduring interest in learning new languages and the opportunity to take many languages in high school helped her realize that she wanted to continue her education in Spanish. Through this, along with tutoring students, she realized she enjoyed teaching others about languages.

Not only was Ms. Creamer talented at picking up new languages, she was also adept at learning new instruments and played many different instruments in high school. She also played softball and ran track.

When she is not busy in the classroom, she enjoys exploring New England with her friends. As an avid BC alum, she also spends her time cheering on the Eagles at different sporting events.

Thank you, Ms. Creamer, for taking the time to help us with this week’s Faculty Friday spotlight!
