Honoring Our Veterans

In the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, there was a ceasefire between the Allies and Germany during WWI.—since known as Armistice Day. In 1938, Armistice Day was recognized as a national holiday in the United States. Long after the end of WWII, and even after our engagement in the Korean Conflict, the name was changed to Veterans Day.

Veterans Day honors those who were and are willing to give their lives to serve our country. This year, to acknowledge our veterans, the Campus Ministry team organized a fundraiser to benefit Veterans Hospital in West Roxbury. On Tuesday, November 8, the group held a bake sale at both lunches and orchestrated a dress down day during which students wore red, white, and blue, camouflage, or a specific armed forces shirt to honor all who have served our country.

The proceeds collected will be used to purchase some much-needed items from the wish list provided by those who care for the patients at the VA Hospital. Items include basic toiletries, slipper socks, puzzles, large print reading materials, and gift cards to various stores to assist with re-entry upon leaving the hospital.

We are proud to announce that the team raised over $700 for this great cause! A special thank you to the planning committee: Jeonghun Kim ’17, Martine Bjoernstad ’17, Emily Taranto ’17, and Kelli Aquino ’18.
