Spirit Week & Homecoming 2016!

Walking the halls of Saint Joseph Prep last week, it was impossible to ignore the incredible displays of school pride. Fall Spirit Week at SJP is an annual tradition and a great opportunity for school community to come together as one family. Throughout the week, there were different themes, activities, and games that all culminated with a Homecoming celebration, the likes of which SJP has never seen.

On Monday, students and teachers supported their favorite college and professional teams by wearing the sports gear of their choice. (Unfortunately, despite a proud showing of Red Sox jerseys and t-shirts, the team could not advance past Cleveland!). Tuesday was Twin Day, or in some cases Triplet or Quadruplet Day, and it was fun to see our students’ creativity on display as they dressed alike in various ways. Wednesday was a grade level Theme Day, highlighted by a Hawaiian day for our 9th graders, animals for the sophomore class, villains for the juniors, and to counteract the 11th grade, our seniors were superheroes. On #ThrowbackThursday, students and faculty were dressed in clothes from many different eras, and again, some of our students were hardly recognizable in their parents’ gently used duds.

Finally, Friday was SJP Day, where everyone wore their favorite SJP gear. The afternoon concluded with a raucous Pep Rally, featuring a routine by the SJP Cheerleaders! More than 80 students participated in various games in the gymnasium, ranging from a hands-free cookie-eating competition to student-faculty dodgeball game. Special thanks go out to Sharon King ’17, our Student Council President, for her monumental efforts in making the Pep Rally a great success.

After school on Friday, JV and Varsity Volleyball swept Cathedral in front of a packed house, while the Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer teams also took down South Shore Christian and Mystic Valley, respectively. The next day, after a delicious Homecoming BBQ, catered by Blue Ribbon, two buses brought more than 100 students to the football game versus Pope John II High School. Although the team lost the game, the crowd was electrified by the team’s effort.

Homecoming Weekend ended late Saturday night with the ever-popular Homecoming Dance. Students from all grades danced the night away in their finest party clothes, having a great time. All in all, it was a great Spirit Week and Homecoming that displayed the excitement and appreciation our students have for attending Saint Joseph Prep. Thank you to everyone (there are far too many to name individually) who helped make Spirit Week such a wonderful memory for our community!
