Faculty Friday Spotlight: Mr. Tristan Macdonald

Happy Friday! In this week’s #FacultyFriday Spotlight, we sat down with Mr. Tristan Macdonald. As a founding faculty member at Saint Joseph Prep, Mr. Macdonald has been here since Day One. He currently teaches both English and Theology in addition to moderating the Yearbook Club and Chapel Speaking program.

This happens to be an extra-special spotlight because Mr. Macdonald and his fiancee will be getting married right here in Boston tomorrow afternoon! This is a blessed event that will be made even more memorable as his brother, Father Tom Macdonald, will celebrate the Mass.

Now in his fifth year at SJP, Mr. Macdonald has enjoyed the process of helping to build the school into what it is today. “It’s a rare opportunity to have been on the ground floor,” remarked Mr. Macdonald, “building a curriculum and establishing school norms. I have absolutely loved being part of this community.” His favorite aspect is the family-like atmosphere at Saint Joseph Prep. “Everyone knows each other’s name and the people are genuinely happy to be here. I know that’s not always the case at every school, so I’ve loved my experience and the opportunity to connect with the students individually.”

Mr. Macdonald was born and raised in Westford, Massachusetts. After graduating from Westford Academy, he attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in English. While at UMass, Mr. Macdonald was heavily influenced by the group discussions in his classes, and as a result, he recognized that teaching at the high school or college level was his true vocation.

Although he is a product of public education, Mr. Macdonald appreciates working in an environment where faith is important. Helping students develop their own faith life both in the classroom and through community service and retreat opportunities has been a truly enriching experience. Outside of life at SJP, Mr. Macdonald enjoys reading, biking, and exploring new towns all over Massachusetts.

Thank you, Mr. Macdonald, for taking some time away from your wedding planning responsibilities for the #FacultyFriday spotlight! We wish you all the very best this weekend and for a lifetime of health and happiness with your new bride!
